                                            LEADERS DAY

Halogen Conference
National Young Leaders Day
Friday 3rd March, 2017

On Friday the 3rd March, the Captains, Vice Captains and Leadership Team of Corrimal Public School attended the annual Halogen Conference, which took place at the Sydney International Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour.

We left by bus at 6.15am sharp, anxious and excited of what the day was going to bring. Mrs Veljanovski accompanied us to the event. She was also very excited!

It took nearly 2 ½ hours to reach our destination, due to the heavy rain and traffic. When we finally arrived at the Conference Centre, you could hear everyone's excitement building. We just couldn't wait to get inside! Once inside, we quickly took our seats. There were approximately 4,500 students there on the day and we all looked like little ants sitting up in the stands!

We were amazed by the wonderful speakers, which included:

  • Sam Skinner (the President of Halogen)
  • Sam Webb (Co-Founder of Livin- an organisation that deals with depression) who told us about the 3P's Patience, Persistence & staying Positive
  • Jade Mameister (She is the youngest person to ski to the North Pole)
  • Dr. Jordan Nguyen (Expert in robotics and bio-kinetics)
  • Barry Conrad (A singer from the X-Factor)
  • The theme for the event was ‘Together We Can' .

We were also lucky enough to meet some of the inspiring speakers and participate in a variety of fun and engaging activities, including a ‘silent disco'! We also danced up a storm with RED ED Dance.

As we headed back to the bus for the long journey home, we remembered the fabulous day we had and all the things we had learnt that day. Some things, such as ‘never giving up' and ‘pushing through your fears to become a leader' will stay with us forever. It was an amazing experience! We would like to thank Mrs Veljanovski for taking us and Mr Fisher for paying for us to attend.

Just remember, if you are in Year 5 and thinking of going for a captaincy role in 2018, these are the types of things you'll be able to experience too. The event has played a significant role in our leadership development and we will remember it for the rest of our lives!

Thank you…

Matthew, Aditi, Joshua, Layla, Aden, Kobi, Gilbert and Ella
